Yes, you read that right, Amazon is trying to get in on the booze game.
The company has applied for a liquor license and approval from the city to open a storefront at its warehouse in San Francisco. The brick and mortar location would serve not only as a store but as a delivery hub where they can deliver alcohol to Amazon Prime members in the city.
The store itself would open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, but alcohol deliveries can be made after-hours, from 8 a.m. to midnight.
Furthermore, the main reason behind Amazon’s liquor application is so that the company could add wine and alcohol to the long list of items available for delivery through Prime Now.
There’s no word on whether they’re planning to open more liquor stores in other cities but, you know, it’s Amazon, so probably. With Amazon Prime, Amazon already offers alcohol for delivery in cities including Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, and New York.
