Aretha Franklin, “The Queen of Soul” has died

Aretha Franklin, “The Queen of Soul” died Thursday morning at the age of 76 at her home in Detroit from advanced pancreatic cancer.

With hundreds of songs to her name she will be remembered for such songs as “Respect”, “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman”, “Chain of Fools”, “Rock Steady”, “Freeway of Love” and so many more. Over the course of her career Aretha Franklin was a Grammy-Award winner, Golden Globe winner, NAACP Image Award winner, Kennedy Center Honors recipient, Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer as well as other awards, nominations and lifetime achievement awards.

The family has released a statement, “In one of the darkest moments of our lives, we are not able to find the appropriate words to express the pain our heart, We have lost the matriarch and rock of our family”
