Rumors surrounding the health of guitarist Eddie Van Halen continue, with TMZ saying that Van Halen has been flying back and forth to Germany over the last five years to treat throat cancer.
Van Halen believes he got cancer from a metal guitar pick he has used over two decades ago. Doctors have said that holding the pick in his mouth could have contributed to his cancer. In 2015, he did suggest that holding the guitar picks in his mouth could be responsible. “I used metal picks – they’re brass and copper – which I always held in my mouth, in the exact place where I got the tongue cancer,” Van Halen said.
He had a third of his tongue removed back in 2000 due to cancer, but was declared cancer-free in 2002.
Van Halen also admitted that he used to smoke and do a lot of drugs, but he added, quote, “my lungs are totally clear.”
As of now, he has yet to release an official statement or confirm reports of a diagnosis or treatment.
Sending you our best wishes, Eddie.
