Eric Clapton is organizing a London concert celebrating the music and life of late Cream drummer Ginger Baker, who passed away last month at the age of 80. The show, dubbed Eric Clapton & Friends: A Tribute to Ginger Baker, will be held February 17, 2020 at the Eventim Apollo Hammersmith venue.
The concert, the lineup for which will be announced soon, will showcase material on which Clapton and Baker collaborated, including the music of Cream and their subsequent supergroup, Blind Faith, which also featured Steve Winwood.
Tickets for the concert go on sale this Friday, November 29, at 10 a.m. local time.
The show will benefit Leonard Cheshire, a U.K.-based charity supported by the Baker family. The organization helps disabled people with education, employment and independent living.
In other news, Clapton made a guest appearance at a concert Monday by the veteran U.K. psychedelic band Hawkwind in Guildford, U.K. Eric, who’s been friends with Hawkwind frontman Dave Brock since they were teenagers, performed for nearly an hour with the group.
Among the eight songs on which Clapton played guitar were “The Watcher.” Eric also is featured on an updated studio version of the 1972 tune, which appeared on Hawkwind’s 2018 album, Road to Utopia.
