(LOS ANGELES) — Gabourey Sidibe says she’s set on making 2018 about her health and wellness.
In a recent tweet, the Empire actress revealed she’s planning to take this year off to recover from having her tonsils removed.
“I’ve decided to get a tonsillectomy and I deserve to take all of 2018 off as personal time to rest from this huge adult decision I just made,” Sidibe wrote. “Please respect my privacy at this time.”
Although it is uncertain if Sidibe will actually take the entire year off to recover from her procedure, fans of the actress wished her will.
“Bless your heart!!!!” wrote one fan. “Baby girl I got mine out 3 years ago and you will DEFINITELY need MONTHS to recover. This surgery s NO JOKE on Adults. I’ll be praying for your speedy recovery and healing.”
Another shared his experience, “Had mine out at age 42, now 49. Hurts like hell, for a good 70-90 days. But now, I’m rarely sick, and my previous fall allergies are almost non-existent now. Best of luck, and fight through it, knowing it’s ‘better on the other side.’ #icecream :)”
This is not the first major surgery for Sidibe. In 2016, Gabby underwent weight loss surgery, and shared the experience in her memoir, This Is Just My Face: Try Not to Stare.
“It has taken me years to realize that what I was born with is all beautiful,” she wrote, that was excerpted by People. “I did not get this surgery to be beautiful. I did it so I can walk around comfortably in heels. I want to do a cartwheel. I want not to be in pain every time I walk up a flight of stairs.”
