Alas, some good news movie buffs!

Scream 5 is a go, despite COVID-19!

David Arquette confirmed the news as well as his return to the satire-horror franchise in the role of the lovable Deputy Dewey Riley.

This will be the fifth time Arquette has reprised his role of Dewey, as he has been a mainstay in the Scream films since the first movie hit theaters in 1996.

“I am thrilled to be playing Dewey again and to reunite with my Scream family, old and new,” the actor said in a statement, per Collider. “Scream has been such a big part of my life, and for both the fans and myself, I look forward to honoring Wes Craven’s legacy.”

It’s been 9 years since the last Scream movie was released, the fifth installment however, will be the first without legendary director Wes Craven, who passed away in 2015.

In other news surrounding the film, Neve Campbell, who also appeared in the first four movies, has hinted at her return.

“We’re having conversations. I have been approached about it,” Campbell said in a recent interview. “The timing’s a bit challenging because of COVID. You know, we only started the conversation maybe a month and a half ago…We’re negotiating, so we’ll see.”
