How many great shows have you seen at De Anza College’s Flint Center? For me, there are some sweet memories, like taking my mom to see the great Patty Andrews of the 1940s hit group, The Andrews Sisters–music history! Now it’s time to say, “goodbye Flint Center”.
According to the Los Altos Town Crier news:
“It’s the end of an era. The Foothill-De Anza Community College Board of Trustees Monday night voted to permanently close the Flint Center for the Performing Arts at De Anza College. The board left open the possibility of student/faculty housing and/or a new performing arts venue.
Opened in 1971, the 2,400-seat theater played host to the popular Celebrity Forum Speaker Series. Founded by former Foothill College dean Richard Henning, the series ended this year after 51 seasons. Despite that success, the building saw 17-24% occupancy any given year and suffered structural safety problems requiring nearly $50 million in retrofits.”
