Some homeowners near Sacramento are not happy about a new neighborhood rule: they must leave their garage doors open! Most neighborhoods have a rule that your door must be closed, but the Auburn Greens subdivision, northeast of Sacramento has a new rule that residents must leave their garage doors open weekdays from 8am-4pm.
The neighborhood association can fine homeowners $200.00 if their door is found closed during this time.
Some residents ask what’s the point in having a garage door if the door is open, while others have had to clear out everything from their garage to avoid having anything stolen.
What’s behind this unique new rule? The housing crisis. Like the Bay Area, more people in the Sacramento area are living in garages, and the neighborhood thinks the “open door policy” will stop people from turning the garage into a bedroom.
