It was only a matter of time but it’s finally here!

We were all already thinking it and now The Knack has delivered; reimagining the lyrics to their 1979 hit “My Sharona” as “Bye, Corona”.

Guitarist Bert Averre debuted a new version of the hit song to address the coronavirus epidemic on YouTube – after acknowledging that “Bye, Corona” had already been done multiple times.

“Some people have asked whether we were going to get around to doing our own Sharona/Corona parody song – because apparently there aren’t enough of them,” Averre said. “Sadly, our lead singer is no longer with us, and trust me, you don’t want to hear me croak it out. So I was thinking … a nice safe thing to do is show you our dogs.”

His version on really didn’t change anything but the chorus. However, there was a funny moment where Averre could be seen spraying down his guitar with disinfectant after the guitar solo.

After the solo, the screen split to show bass player Prescott Niles joining in for the final chorus, after a more serious message of solidarity during the pandemic scrolls across the screen.

Have you heard any good Coronavirus parody songs?
