Queen has officially launched its new “You Are the Champions” campaign, which seeks fans to contribute to three new official videos that will be created for the band’s classic songs “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Don’t Stop Me Now” and “A Kind of Magic.”
The initiative is looking for singers and musicians to lend their talents to the “Bohemian Rhapsody” clip, dancers to appear in the “Don’t Stop Me Now” video, and visual artists to put their stamp on the “A Kind of Magic” promo.
Queen guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor appear in a YouTube video in which they encourage fans to head to the new website YouAretheChampions.com, where they can submit their parts.
For the “Bohemian Rhapsody” video, fans are asked to “[s]ubmit a video of you playing or singing the song. You can do the whole thing or your favorite section. Use any instrument, with any number of performers.”
For the “Don’t Stop Me Now” clip, fans are asked to learn a special dance by watching an instructional video created by Polly Bennett, actor Rami Malek‘s movement coach for the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody. Participants can “focus on one section or do the entire dance,” then submit a video of their performance.
For the “A Kind of Magic” video, visual artists are asked to pick a word or phrase from the song’s lyrics and create a personalized painted, drawn or animated design for it. Artists also have the option of coming up with a five-second animated segment corresponding to an instrumental part of the tune.
Submissions will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. ET on August 18. The three videos will premiere this fall.
As previously reported, the “You Are the Champions” campaign was launched to celebrate the original “Bohemian Rhapsody” video reaching 1 billion YouTube views.
