Santa Clara University’s Women’s Soccer Team Wins Their Second College Cup Title Ever!

In thrilling fashion, the Santa Clara University women’s soccer team won their second ever national title yesterday!

They defeated the top rank Florida State Seminoles on penalty kicks, 4-1!

After two Florida State’s penalty attempts hit the post, it left the door open for the 11th-seeded Broncos to win their first national title since 2001!

Izzy D’Aquila made the clinching shot that made the Broncos’ trip home from North Carolina a victorious one.

“This is the moment we’ve been waiting for. It feels so surreal,” said team star Kelsey Turnbow. “We’ve been through so many challenges, with this COVID bubble, this past year. And so the hard work, sweat, tears and determination that our team has put in is finally paying off, and it feels so great to be a champion.”

This season was especially challenging for the Broncos because of the coronavirus restrictions in Santa Clara County. The team played just seven regular-season games this spring, after the West Coast Conference postponed the fall season.
