Star Wars Icons Open Up Disney’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

The opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is finally upon us and these are the stars you are looking for!

Live in front of the Millennium Falcon, George Lucas, Billy Dee Williams, Mark Hamill joined Disney CEO Bob Iger to cut the ribbon for the brand new attraction at Disneyland.

First, Iger introduced series creator, George Lucas, who went on to say that Galaxy’s Edge is like “Star Tours on steroids.” Following Lucas was Billy Dee Williams, also known as the smooth talking smuggler, Lando Calrissian, who talked about the Falcon’s original owner.

And finally Mark Hamill joined the group to fire up the Falcon, but they ran into a problem. The Falcon wouldn’t start!

There was only one man that could get the Falcon running and that was Han Solo himself, Harrison Ford!

Ford strutted on stage in typical Han-fashion to the delight of everyone in attendance and gave a special nod before giving the Falcon a thump.

The nod was for beloved Chewbacca actor, Peter Mayhew, who died earlier this year.

Galaxy’s Edge officially opens up at the Anaheim park tomorrow and in Florida on August 29, but not all of the rides will be finished on opening day as the park is opening in stages. In Phase One, the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run ride and most of the shops and restaurants will be fully operational. The other major ride, Rise of the Resistance, won’t be ready until Phase Two, which Disney says will open later in the year.
