Take A Cruise Down Barack Obama Boulevard! San Jose Lawmakers Vote To Rename Downtown Stretch After The 44th President

Yesterday, elected officials in San Jose have unanimously approved to rename a city street after former president Barack Obama.

Community leader Alex Shoor spearheaded the movement to rename the streets almost 3 years ago, and along with others, amassed signatures and raised money to fund the effort.

The renamed, Barack Obama Boulevard will include portions of Bird Avenue, South Montgomery Street, South Autumn Street and North Autumn.

According to the Mercury News, Mayor Sam Liccardo and other city leaders have endorsed the proposal.

San Jose is now the second city in the Bay Area to name a street after the 44th president. In September of 2019, Milpitas named a stretch of Dixon Landing Road as Barack Obama Boulevard.

No timetable has yet been set for the name change to take place.
