The Change Is Official…‘Uncle Ben’s’ Is Now ‘Ben’s Original’

The Uncle Ben’s era is officially over.

The rice you’ve come to know and love known as Uncle Ben’s will now be known as Ben’s Original.

It took just three months, but the brand officially made the annoucement yesterday.

Parent company, Mars Inc., says the name change signals “the brand’s ambition to create a more inclusive future while maintaining its commitment to producing the world’s best rice.”

Over the years, the Uncle Ben name and logo has faced backlash because of the brand’s “uncle” name origin.

The New York Times reported that back in the day, “white Southerners” used ‘uncle’ or ‘aunt’ as a word for older blacks because they didn’t want to call them ‘Mr.’ or ‘Mrs.’

The company also said that they have immediately begun production of the new brand identity and that Ben’s Original will begin reaching store shelves early next year.

What do you think of the name change?

Will it take time for you to get used to the new name?
